shipment: E-Wan x Kum-Ji (Chocolat)

Recommencing my a-picture's-worth-a-thousand-words random shipment series that used to decorate the sidebar of this blog.

Spotlight ON:

Though it was slow going there at first—E-Wan x Kum-Ji from Shin JiSang & Geo's manhwa Chocolat.

Kum-Ji, if you've ever read my About page, is the wise philosopher who observed that inequality exists between fangirls. The boys who make up the romantic triangle with her both agree that Kum-Ji's (She's not pretty anywhere and she's nowhere cute. – E-Soh) lacking in the comeliness department.

But allegedly low beauty factor aside, Kum-Ji to me is one of the strongest manhwa heroines around (and that's saying A LOT) and no mere guy, boy band member or no, is going to be fit to partner her.

He needs must be as special and as compelling as Kum-Ji.

This is where E-Wan comes in.

E-Wan, not the romantic interest who dominated the first two books but who comes into his own as a more than dark horse contender in volume three has been described by his creator as:

Whatever his true motives are, the b*stard won't stop harassing her.

And a b*stard he is and harass her he does—from filching her cellphone to calling her a tease for having a boyfriend (other than him ^^').

So why ship Kum-Ji with E-Wan instead of with E-Soh (impatient stalker (?) who can't be away from her for a second) who was the undisputed male lead until E-Wan decided to make his move? Or Kum-Ji's original What does she see in such a sissy wub Jin Ryu?

Or even stick with the so-called canon pairing of E-Wan and Eun-Sung which the former himself describes as the perfect couple here?

Actually, before volume three, I wasn't really shipping Kum-Ji with anyone, least of all E-Soh who looked to be the other half of the OTP in the beginning. Not because I didn't like E-Soh; it's just… I found the chemistry between him and Kum-Ji a little lacking.

Okay, more than a little.

Kum-Ji with E-Wan, on the other hand… I find myself literally breathless when reading their interactions. Which seethe with all the delicious, dark, latent possibilities that indicate a heart-throbby pairing. He can be gruff with her or he can be sweet and cheesy with her and I would still end up gasping.

And then once breathing was restored, going Kyaaaa! like any good fangirl.

I look forward to more E-Wan x Kum-Ji shippyness.
