I kid. You need all three for a perfect life. So thank you, Right Stuf & Nozomi Entertainment for acquiring the Gakuen Alice anime and deciding to release the series in its entirety—subbed—this 2009.
This post following up Dale North-san's live blogging report on the Right Stuf / Nozomi panel from Anime Expo '08 is by someone didn't go but nevertheless hearts Gakuen Alice muchness. And after that doki-doki over the fate of the English Gakuen Alice manga (currently released by TOKYOPOP), I'm all Snoopy happy dance over the confirmation of this series' marketability, as proven by Right Stuf & Nozomi's acquisition announcement.
Gakuen Alice features genki, Kansai-ben-speaking Sakura Mikan who follows bestfriend Imai Hotaru to Alice Gakuen or Alice Academy, an almost correctional facility-like boarding school for people with special powers called Alices.
What Kind Of Lame Power Is Heart Anyway regardless, Mikan—who providentially turns out to be gifted with the Alice that nullifies other peoples' powers—successfully shoehorns herself into the academy and crosses Alices with the punk with the hottitude Hyuuga Natsume. Apparently the most dangerous power wielder in school, Natsume becomes Mikan's guide to academy life and that's not because he saw her underwear.
The 26-episode anime was adapted from the shoujo manga by the delightfully loopy Higuchi Tachibana-sensei and aired on NHK's BS-2 from October 2004 to May 2005. Right Stuf & Nozomi's version is expected to street in the spring of 2009.
Dale-san has covered most of the upcoming stuff, but just to recap: Aside from Gakuen Alice, Right Stuf will also be releasing the original Toward the Terra movie, a remastered version of The Irresponsible Captain Tylor, the second season of Emma: A Victorian Romance, Maria Watches Over Us seasons 1 to 3, the Aria The Animation DVD collection, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya t-shirts and other Gravitation, Ninja Nonsense, Otaku Collegiate, and Sounds of the Samurai collections.
