From Elex's cabinet of curiosities comes... a cabinet of curiosities! (C.M.B. manga by Katou Motohiro premieres August 2008)

Never mind the flawed logic and redundant locution, babbling at length does have upsides. First, I got my wish for Elex Media to license Katou Motohiro-sensei's Rocket Man; now, it presents me with the C.M.B. manga.

Hopefully this August.

C.M.B. Shinra Hakubutsukan no Jiken Mokuroku (Ｃ．Ｍ．Ｂ．森羅博物館の事件目録)—to give it its complete title—is another shounen tantei series by Katou Motohiro-sensei. C.M.B. sometimes crosses over with my favorite despite being published flopped Q.E.D. Shomei Shuryo, owing to the fact that Q.E.D.'s Touma Sou and C.M.B.'s Sakaki Shinra are cuzins (the 180 or thereabouts IQ turns out to be genetic).

That extant copies of C.M.B. in Indonesia comprised bootlegs has been a source of ongoing frustration. But not anymore, not if Elex keeps its promise.

Outside of the mangazines, Elex Media plans to release 100 manga, manhwa, and makita titles this month.

New series and standalones
You already know that I'm most excited about is C.M.B. Lemme blah-blah-blah s'more. C.M.B.: Shinra's Cabinet of Curiosities - Case files represents my very liberal, mouthful of an attempt at translating the manga title—transliterated by Google as C.M.B. Ra Mori museum catalogue incident. The Cabinet of Curiosities comes from the alternative term Wunderkammer, a room for warehousing encyclopedic collections of scientific oddities and artefacts amassed by intrepid (sometimes conscience-less) explorers of old. As for why Shinra falls heir to one originally in the custody of the British Museum—that discussion (ramble) will be deferred for when the first manga volume actually comes out.

Souryuuden, Libero Revolution!! Et Cetera, etc.
Aside from C.M.B., there are 13 new Elex and Level Comics manga slated to premiere this August 2008, according to the monthly Komikologi Elex. Among them: Ahiru no Sora, Souryuuden (released as Dragon Brothers and serialized in the Indonesian Shonen Magz), Et Cetera by Nakazaki Tow-sensei; Miyasaka Kaho-sensei's Feverish Girl AKA Binetsu Shoujo (which had been rescheduled from July); Libero Revolution!! by Tanaka Motoyuki-sensei (as a bonus, the second volume is also supposed to street sometime this August); and Suiri no Hoshi-kun.

The total could actually climb to 15, seeing as how the first volume of Hino Matsuri-sensei's Merupuri and Nakaji Yuki-sensei's Zig Zag have yet to make it into your nearest Gramedia branch.

Of the new manga, I was unsuccessful in uncovering further details on Kiseki no Inu, the Kumon Manga: Oz (I can only surmise that it's a manga adaptation of The Wizard of Oz by the same publisher of the Sherlock Holmes manga series), the standalone Pocketful of Happiness by Fumizuki Kyoko-sensei, and Roulette Battler by Maekawa Takeshi-sensei, creator of Animal Sense. Please just check the links to the EMO forum boards/Indonesian synopses for what info there is on these. Douzo.

Nakayoshi Lovely Ivy
Elex is also set to release a new compile of one-shots by Nakayoshi manga-ka. The mangazine is called Nakayoshi Lovely Ivy and word is that it will feature these three shoujo stories: Secret Boyfriend by Sakura Asami-sensei; Promise of the Way Back by Minazuki Shin-sensei; and the one I'm looking forward to, a standalone by Takase Ryo-sensei entitled Dear Friend (I loved Takase Ryo-sensei's My Dear back in the day.)

Series ending
In contrast with the 14 percent new series, concluding series only constitute five percent of the total Elex and Level releases. They are Bushin (volume 5 of 5), Monster Soul (2 of 2), Minna no Doubutsuen (released as Our Zoo, 2 of 2), Boy Girl Romance (AKA Shounen Shoujo Romance, 3 of 3), and Kamiyadori (5 of 5).

At 19 titles, Kodansha ties with Shogakukan in the most number of manga in the Elex list. Unknowns and Shueisha draw at nine titles apiece. Meanwhile, the situation is overturned for Level Comics: Shogakukan leads Kodansha at 11 to Kodansha's 10. The remaining two manga titles are from Kadokawa Shoten.

By genre
Just eyeballing the Elex list, I can already tell that shounen pwns, but if you insist on a percentage, it's 58 percent shounen/sonyun vs. 19 percent shoujo/BL. Seinen, kodomo, and josei, contribute 12 percent, while the rest is uncategorized. For the Level Comics imprint, it's predictably, predominantly seinen, although shoujo was leading there for a while.
