In drafting this post, I had a choice of leading with a cover from one of these 3 June manga: Dear Boys Act II 30, Kitchen Princess 10, Q.E.D. 31, Shirley, Shugo Chara! 4, or Yakitate!! Japan 10. This being "Touma Sou's" blog, not to mention that 6/3 is someone's birthday (mine!), it was a no-brainer that I would opt for — you know what birthday prezzie to get for me now ^^

Overshare aside, in volume 31 of Katou Motohiro-sensei's shounen tantei manga, Touma and Mizuhara are invited to New York by Loki and Eva, in the hope that Touma would be able to solve the problem besetting one of Loki's friends. Did Touma and Mizuhara just get more than they bargained for?

The "unpredictable" story features senior high student Ando, gifted with "thought ventriloquism," the power to make other people broadcast what he is thinking. Ando admires Inukai, the mysterious chief of the vigilante group Grasshopper, until one day, he chances upon a different side to the enigmatic leader.

Here's my translation/adaptation of the blurb from Komikologi June:

Miss Bennet, a young lady who lives alone and runs a café, needs a housekeeper. On her way home after work one day, she encounters a little girl waiting at her front door—Shirley Madison, who is just 13. Miss Bennet decides to employ Shirley, but something about the girl makes Miss Bennet wonder about Shirley's past.

As you can see from the above translation, this is, to use IIChan Translation Group's summation of this manga (excerpted by Baka-Updates Manga), another maid-tastic manga from Kaoru Mori. IIChan Translation Group goes on to compare Shirley with another series that has languid pacing, atmospheric backgrounds, and a female main character who works in a café—Yokahama Kaidashi Kikou.

Additionally (and this is just what might make me buy this), it purportedly has No hentai, no fanservice, zero, zip, nada. Just pure maid-tastic moemoe.

A North Korean agent, trained from a tender age to kill, embarks on a suicide mission. Despite detonating explosives on board the ship she and the Russian mafia are on, the assassin survives and to complicate matters — has to rescue a young South Korean boy from drowning.

Unable to immediately return to North Korea, she is forced to live with the boy she saved, disguising herself as a Busan high school student, to ensure that he keeps his trap shut. All the while, plotting her return home.

And so goes the plotline to this seinen action/comedy manhwa starring a killer and her hapless(?) "captive," trying to live the regular life of your garden-variety high school students.

In the final Kitchen Princess tankou (according to Del Rey's synopsis for the same volume), Najika, to the end, waffles between Daichi (who is gripped by even more angst) and Seiya (who is always ready to take Daichi's place in Najika's affections). Who will Najika, who has entered a cooking competition in Paris, ultimately choose? I'm not being needlessly snarky here; I still wub, wub, wub this series (yes, even the recipes at the end), and so this is a definite GET!
