Setting aside my grumbling over not finding Promise 5, The Magic in Me 3, and Kyou, Koi wo Hajimemasu 3 in Gramed ain't easy, and results in the temptation to level a sour look at m&c!'s 6 May manga releases — even though the series conclusions that took a year to release are finally streeting.

I'm referring, of course, to Kurahashi Erika-sensei's Angel From The End or Seikimatsu no Angel (volume 4) and Sleepless Cinderella (volume 2); both series were last seen loitering in stores around June and April 2008 respectively. m&c! finally deigned to publish the finales, but with over 12 months in between reads, I'm tepid over them, especially now that manga prices have gone up. (Thinking of just borrowing them from the Elex Comic Center nearby.)

The new manga stand to suffer a similar fate. I can't seem to work up any excitement for Love Strategy, the new standalone from Hozuki Souta-sensei (Yowamushi Nikki manga-ka) nor Telepathy Pierce by Matsumoto Natsumi-sensei. This despite Matsumoto-sensei being the creator of the Saint Dragon Girl series, which I absolutely adored. (That Saint Dragon Girl remains unlicensed in Indonesia continues to irritate.)

*Sigh* Sorry for the grumpiness. I should be thankful there's manga at all. Neway, here's the 6 May release list:

Natsume accidentally stumbles upon a concealed underground tunnel. Is it just a fluke that Natsume found it?

In the Alice Academy 10 manga that streets next Wednesday, Mikan, attending the elite Hanazono New Year's party, suffers from some not-so-subtle bullying, which escalates into her imprisonment in a hidden room. Meanwhile, Natsume, who had insisted on accompanying Mikan to the party, to the latter's consternation, accidentally stumbles upon a concealed underground tunnel. But is it just a fluke that Natsume found it? Or is someone targeting Natsume?

Yeah, yeah, I know you already know the answer, especially if you're up to speed with HanaLaLa 37 (the latest chapter comes from Alice Academy tankou 11), but that hot pink paw print stuck on volume 10 (Must Have Manga designation; see the April Komikologi and cf. my version on the left Efon O) demands leading with an Alice Academy synopsis. So there, nyaaah.

And speaking of synopses, mo' of them (seven, exactly) after the manga list.

Series ending or about to
We have Elex releasing the Emma Bangaihen, TOTO!, and Yukan Club finales. For some strange reason, only Yukan Club 19 lacks a paw print. I think (and ertswhile blog reader Runesque-san would prolly agree with me) that this is definitely a Must-Have.

For penultimates, we have Beauty is The Beast 4, Dewi Karin Chu (Kamichama Karin chu) 6, and Dragon Drive 13. The last penult—the fourth Fairy Tale Motif Brocade (Otogimoyou Ayanishiki—also releases next Wednesday. Word on the franchise is that Hikawa Kyouko-sensei will debut the sequel, Otogimoyou Ayanishiki Futatabi, in the June 27 issue of Melody mangazine. The chances of HanaLaLa picking this up for serialization though looks mighty slim as that Hana (to Yume) and LaLa in the mangazine's title implies...

Still on mangazines... Shonen Star 52/2009. The Indonesian version of Shonen Sunday streets on the 5th.

Little Devil Cafe 2, Rainbow 11, Fight!! Ippo 64 (Level Comics 5 May 2009 manga)

Still haven't snagged volume 1 and already, volume 2 has a street date. I'm talking about Little Devil Café (Koakuma Café) 2 which will be on sale from 5 May.

In this second tankou of Oda Aya-sensei's four-volume shoujo series, Sakura and Chika are already boyfriend-girlfriend, but Sakura still can't control the little devil, much less his unceasing, doki doki-inciting rabu patter. This makes Chika's fangirls see red, and amid the threats promising bruises, to say the least, Sakura stands firm and declares, I will not lose!!

Meanwhile, in Hajime no Ippo 64, the bout between Takuzo and Ippo rages on, and it looks like Ippo might actually end up clobbering the seventh-ranked Takuzo.

To get even closer for more than a look-see, Sakura disguises herself as claims to be a boy and applies for a job. Little does she know that Chika, despite being blessed with the face of an angel, just loves to tease. Sakura will have to work hard not to lose to the little devil!

My question is: Is that little devil descriptor literal or metaphorical? Or both?

Synopsis
Orphaned after her beloved father passed away, Yuiko prepares to live life alone. Before she can do so, Shun presents himself to her as her fiancé and whisks Yuiko away to his home. It appears that they had been promised in marriage by their parents. The morning after Yuiko moves in, she meets another mysterious guy, Takami.

Yet another Fiancé!?! story in the vein of Platinum Garden and Harem Lodge and... one more m&c! manga, the title of which escapes me (the one with the two fiancés). Or is it? Since it's a Miyasaka Kaho-sensei creation, I think the least we can expect is an(other) awkward heroine and super-protective love interest(s).

Next Tuesday, Level Comics takes the road less traveled and releases more manga than its weekly norm — probably to offset the moans and groans expected to accompany the price hike. (Level prices will also go up next month by IDR 1,000 per book; I got email confirmation.) We have eight tankou releasing, and with the exception of 3x3 Eyes and Red Eyes (what's with the globular seeing organs?), all priced at the near-extinct IDR 16,000 apiece.

New manga
Of the eight, two are series premieres—both originally serialized in Sho-Comi, both short (for Level standards) and from all indications, much awaited. They are Little Devil Café (Koakuma Café) by Oda Aya and 16 engage by Miyasaka Kaho. Since Level editor Lenny-san was so nice in providing me synopses and the cover art for both, I've decided to give these two newbies their own posts.

And with 16 engage 1, Miyasaka Kaho-sensei has two shoujo series this schedule; the latest Feverish Girl (volume 5) also releases on 28 April.
