黒執事 4

Published in Indonesia as Black Butler by Elex Media Komputindo

Investigating a series of apparently bias-motivated attacks on British citizens returning from India, Ciel and Sebastian are set upon by a group of men from the subcontinent. The Indian prince Soma and his butler Agni come to their aid.

Albeit human, Agni rivals Sebastian in fighting skills, especially swordplay. A formerly wealthy man himself, Agni became the prince's butler after Soma rescues him from being hanged for abuse of power. Given the chance to start anew, Agni views his savior as a god.

As Ciel and Sebastian proceed with their investigation, clues lead them to the home of a peer, Lord West, where they find...[Summary adapted from this Wikipedia article]

Volume 4 of Black Butler tosses together what looks like hate crime with psychosis and a curry competition. Do you need further incentive to GET! this tankou?

Summaries of other Elex manga streeting on the 13th, including the penultimate Eat-Man (volume 18) and new manga AAA (Triple A) by Fukushima Haruka, Nephylym by Kusakabe Rei, and Youth Love Story by Kayama Yumi, resume behind the fake cut. For now, let's train the spotlight on —

Featured debut: The Fifth Columnist by Andrea Tezumo

If you're a regular follower of this blog, you know by now that I have been angsticipating Andrea Tezumo-sensei's spy thriller The Fifth Columnist. With Elex scheduling the premiere for this 13th, I only have two more days to go before I am put out of my misery. ^^

If you're wondering why I'm so amped over this new local series, here's the synopsis in Indonesian (it's in protagonist Bishop's POV):

The Fifth Columnist 1 - HongKong Act teaser

Hong Kong Act teaser,
The Fifth Columnist

And here's Andrea-sensei's English version of the above blurb:

A simple statement was all it took to be doubtful of my new alpha-agent of a partner. How did a former German army recruit end up as a British spy? More importantly, why couldn't our unit chief stop bragging about how good this man was?

(Dear Andrea-sensei, I know you gave me leave to edit for clarity but I think your version's more than clear enuf ^^ And again, arigato gozaimuchness for letting me repost your artwork...)

Curious about Bishop and her problematic partner Helix now? Then do GET! The Fifth Columnist volume 1. (You can also follow Bishop to her domain, as Andrea-sensei suggests.)

Mangazines: It's a wild life!

Shonen Star 61/2010 - Front cover: Wild Life by Fujisaki Masato

Wild Life
© Fujisaki Masato/

A congenitally sick dog is saved, thanks to aspiring vet Tessho's daring and timely help from Takumi. Unfortunately, Ryoto's distrust of Takumi has yet to wane, as Tessho's boss suspects Takumi of having something to do with Shiryo, despite Takumi's vehement denials. This and other drama in the latest installment to Fujisaki Masato's Wild Life, one of the ongoing shounen serials in Shonen Star 61.

I don't know if this is just premiering or what, but Undead by Inoue Kazurou makes it in Shonen Star 61's lineup. The seinen anthology was first serialized in Big Comic Spirits and supposedly represents a shift to heartrending drama by Inoue-sensei (expanding on his trademark Midori Days/Love & Collage-type comedy).

Other Shogakukan titles in serialization (mainly from Shonen Sunday): Detektif Conan (Meitantei Conan) by Aoyama Gosho · D-LIVE!! by Minagawa Ryouji · Dr. Koto Shinryoujo by Yamada Takatoshi · InuYasha by Takahashi Rumiko · Katsu! by Adachi Mitsuru · Kekkaishi by Tanabe Yellow · Kurozakuro by Natsume Yoshinori · Look Up! (Miagete Goran) by Kusaba Michiteru · MÄR by Anzai Nobuyuki · Yakitate!! Japan by Hashiguchi Takashi

New manga

AAA (Triple A) 1

AAA[トリプルエー] 」 by Fukushima Haruka

You have to do as I say!

Hayato's retort embarrasses Aoi who only wanted her pencil back. And it wouldn't have been such a big deal had Aoi not been the student council prexy of Shutoku Junior High and Hayato, not a gang leader from Akutoku High.

What exactly is the deal between these two schools?

Komikologi lists all four of Fukushima Haruka's shoujo comedy/romance in its January edition. This means one down, three to go.

Nephylym 1

ネフィリム 」 by Kusakabe Rei

Imai Shun thinks the extraordinary power he possesses, the ability to store static electricity, virtually useless. That is, until he hears someone's voice one day, calling him over and over. Who could this person be?

Finally! The first of the promised Comic Alive seinen serials premiere. Here's hoping The Familiar of Zero is not too far behind.

Serial Cantik: Youth Love Story

Nakumatsu Seishun Densetsu: Toki wo Kaketa Shoujotachi Shinsengumihen
幕末青春伝説 新選組編~時をかけた少女た 」 by Kayama Yumi

A chance encounter between Shinsengumi commander Kondo Isami and geisha Miyuki leads to love amid the political and social turmoil of the Bakumatsu.

As the times increasingly become turbulent and the fabric of Japanese society unravels, Isami takes Miyuki away from the geisha house to live with him in his second home. He allows Miyuki to bring along her younger sister Ko. Little does Isami know that Miyuki suffers from an incurable illness, nor does he anticipate Ko also falling in love with him.

Which sister will he ultimately choose?

This is part of the Toki wo Kaketa Shoujotachi series; Innocent Love Story: Girls Who Pass Through Time already released last December.

Continuing series

EatMan 18

EAT-MAN 」 by Yoshitomi Akihito

A Nano Cyborg created under covert military auspices runs amok and slaughters almost every member of the research team that developed it. Bounty hunters dispatched to hunt it down find their task fatally hampered by the cyborg's ability to replicate itself and appear as someone else. Vagabond Bolt Crank and his crew face the same mortal dilemma, as each member begins suspecting the other of not being what he seems!

Fullmetal Alchemist 21

Hagane no Renkinjutsushi鋼の錬金術師 」 by Arakawa Hiromu

Hohenheim regales Edward with the story of his connection to Father, even as Mustang and a select group attempt to defeat Father by engaging Bradley in a train. Meanwhile, Pride overpowers Alphonse and with Gluttony, launches an attack on Edward's group.

This tankou contains chapters 84-87: Shadow of the Pursuer · The Empty Box · Servant of Darkness · An Oath Made in the Underground

Hayate The Combat Butler 17

Hayate no Gotokuハヤテのごとく! 」 by Hata Kenjiro

A fated meeting and a memory that never fades. For Nagi, this is when Hayate confesses to her; For Hayate, it is a memory from long ago, steeped in sorrow, when he first met the girl who would become most precious to him. One who bears the name of a goddess.

Based on Komikologi's blurb, I might as well start playing Malice Mizer's Unmei no Deai as BGM for Hayate no Gotoku 17.

Legend of The Cursed Sword 28

Pageomgi (PaGumKi) 「 파검기 」 by Park HuiJin and Yeo BeopRyong

Jaryun escapes from Siyan's control and Rei, who meets the king, is pushed to battling the Cannibal God and the Dragon God capable of swallowing the sword that hungers for blood, Pasa.
