The Lovely Wizard 7 of 7, Sparkling Gingachou 8, The Story of Wang Xiao Long 3 of 3 (m&c! 31 March 2010 manga and manhua)

*looks around for Pluto 8* m&c! didn't release the darn thing while I wasn't looking, did it?

The Lovely Wizard 7 (m&c!)

Renai Chuudokuteki Senjutsushi © Kawazoe Mariko, Kai Tohru/Shinshokan
Published in Indonesia as The Lovely Wizard by Gramedia/m&c!

When we last left The Lovely Wizard (in Senjutsushi to Saiyaku no Tsubo 1; I apologize again for reporting this volume as the finale), the Urn of Disaster was the bone of contention between the urn's maker Rurisen and the evil mage Nyukus AKA "One Thousand Faces." Nyukus prevails and offers Rurisen a deal: the urn for Rurisen's (comely) face and awesome abilities.

!!!

Elsewhere, in less surprising news (or is it?), Sato likes Kuro! Mike who learns about it (in Sparkling Gingachou 8) is shocked. Childhood friends or not, there is no way Mike is about to give up on Kuro. Even if Sato confesses and Kuro's answer is . . .

I woud've blurbed The Story of Wang Xiao Long finale had not Squint Mode »ON! #FAILed. Here is the cover if you feel like giving it a try.

BESTSELLER REISSUES: Goong and Mint-Na Bokura (We are Twins)

Goong 7-12 box set (m&c!)

Apropos of Goong [Palace Story] volume 18 being slated for 7 April and on the heels of the 24 March rerelease of volumes 1-6, m&c! ships the next Goong box set (volumes 7-12, SRP: IDR 89,000), as well as reissuing volumes 1-6 of Mint-Na Bokura (We are Twins), Yoshizumi Wataru's shoujo series about twins Maria and Noel (one goes to an exclusive girls' school; the other one genderbends so as not to be separated), piecemeal. I remember going as far as taking this manga along on an overseas trip, so I guess now's my chance to GET! the missing from teh library volumes 1 through 3, and I'm going to have to pay the price for pro-pro-PRO!crastinating by forking out a pricier IDR 15,000 apiece to complete my collection.

LOCAL COMICS

Lastly, DO support the local talent. There are three new KOLONI releases: Garudaboi 1 by Galang Tirtakusuma, Chibi Attack by Eri-chan et al., and Heart Trick by H-San (links take you to the covers).

Negi comes off the worse against Fate Averruncus and the gang is dispersed all over the mage world. Find out if (or is it when?) they will be reunited in Magister Negi Magi volume 21, streeting 31 March.

Also shipping the same day is Blade of [the] Immortal volume 6, which (according to Wiki) kicks off the Mugai-ryū story arc—about the secretive sword school in pursuit of the Ittō-ryū head (and Manji's equal), Anotsu Kagehisa.

In the absence of Level blurbs, I assume volume 21 of Yugo The Negotiator continues the Paris Endless War arc (it still sez Yugo in Paris. The Endless War on the cover), while presumably antiques dealer Iriya Shuzo remains on the Atlantean trail (and dodging assassins) in Iliad volume 2 (per what transpired in volume 1).

NEW TITLES: New Comic Bomber by Shimamoto Kazuhiko

新吼えろペン 1

Shin Hoero Pen

Shogakukan (Sunday GX)

Manga-ka Hono Moyuru is back and boy, is he in for a rude awakening in New Comic Bomber, the sequel to Shimamoto Kazuhiko's (what else but) Comic Bomber, the Sunday GX seinen series about a hot-blooded manga artist that Elex concluded publishing in 2009.

Hono-sensei's manga is being adapted into film, and just as the manga-ka is angsting over how well his baby will be treated, the director goes in a totally unfaithful direction! Hono-sensei clashes with said director — who will (un)graciously give in? It should be the manga-ka, but... (Just see for yourself what happens in New Comic Bomber volume 1.

SERIES FINALES: Feverish Girl by Miyasaka Kaho

As Miyasaka Kaho's Feverish Girl (Binetsu Shoujo) romance wraps, Hiro decides to become a doctor (largely because of the eponymous girlfriend). This means he and Rina will be separated for six years while he studies medicine in Hiroshima. Rina wants to spend time with Hero before he leaves, but her condition suddenly worsens. Not only is she hospitalized, Rina also has to undergo an operation! Fearful, Rina asks Hiro to hug her — for the last time? What will happen to Rina and Hiro now?

Rounding out the manga summaries —

  • A massive earthquake rocks Tokyo in Jepang Tenggelam (Nihon Chinbotsu) volume 6. The quake dubbed The Second Great Kanto Earthquake and the deadly tsunami in its wake unleash nature's fury on the hapless city; subsequent fires complete the devastation. Beyond the human and financial cost, however, is an even more terrifying prospect: survivors preying on other survivors.
  • Yumejiro, who restores both cars and their owners' lives, is dragged into the rivalry between Ryutaro and Torahiko who decide to settle things with the Japan Mille Miglia race. Ryutaro asks for Yumejiro's help in finding the perfect racer. There are only days left before the race and still, the right car can't be found in Restore Garage 251 volume 4.

The Ruler of Nabari 8, Red Haired Snow White 2, Tokkyu 10, La Corda D'Oro 7 (Elex 31 March 2010 manga)

Also, the 4th anniversary issue of HanaLaLa, the finale of Nephylym (volume 3), and Legend of Nereid 4

赤髪の白雪姫 2

Akagami no Shirayukihime © Akizuki Sorata/Hakusensha (Serialized in LaLa DX)
Published in Indonesia as Red Haired Snow White by Elex Media

I know, I know, the top DO WANT! of this release is The Ruler of Nabari 8. But as I can resist the lure of Kumohira-sensei—albeit barely—I can't say the same for Zen. So, volume 2 of Red Haired Snow White it is. (To lead this post.)

Still, to placate Miharu (and his legion of fans), let me kick off the synopsizing with the latest Nabari no Ou: After returning to the Banten Village, Kouichi lets Kumohira-sensei and Raimei in on the secret behind his immortality. The next day, to protect the last kinjutsushō Engetsurin, Kumohira-sensei leaves the village. Meanwhile Kairoshu establishes the Kasa unit, but for what purpose?

k, now back to Akagami no Shirayukihime volume 2: Appointed palace pharmacist, Shirayuki is now free to roam, I mean, come and go within the castle as she pleases, without having to depend on Zen. One day, she is sent out for medicinal herbs from a snowy region to the east, near the fortress Zen is currently inspecting. A messenger had been dispatched earlier to the stronghold but no word has been heard from him since. Apparently, a mysterious sickness has befallen the inhabitants, rendering all the soldiers unable to move. What could have caused it? And what's going to happen to Zen?

As for the other continuing manga Elex is releasing this Wednesday —

  • Someone has Inukai in his sights, but the vigilante commander escapes the bullet and certain death. Meanwhile, Ando alone stands firm as people panic and run away. A confrontation between the two is inevitable in Juvenile Remix 3;
  • Punks raise a racket in the okonomiyaki restaurant owned by Katsuki Mizutani's mother just as Katsuki Satoyama is placing his order. What will Katsuki Satoyama's next move be in Katsu! 2?
  • As Kahoko waits for her turn in the Third Selection, Lily tells her that the magic violin, now broken, can only last for one more piece. Despite the distressing news, Kaho still decides to perform in La Corda D'Oro 7;
  • Alice and Tokisada are both captured when they try to uncover the identity of the new opponent that interfered in Lin and Miyabi's battle. The enemy Puppet Master now prepares to put Alice under the knife in The Puppet Master Lin 5; and
  • Squad Three departs for a two day-exercise on Eboshi reef. Everyone is in high spirits and looking forward to the rocky shore training in Tokkyu! 10

BESTSELLER REISSUES: New Kungfu Boy

Elex reissues the complete prequel to Maekawa Takeshi's Kungfu Boy LegendsNew Kungfu Boy (Shin Tekken Chinmi)—in two box sets. Volumes 1-10 and 11-20 (of 20) retail for IDR 145,000/set.

MANGAZINE: HanaLaLa 4th Anniversary Issue - Fruits Basket finale

HanaLaLa 48/2010 - Front cover: Fruits Basket

Fruits Basket © Takaya Natsuki/
Hakusensha

Takaya Natsuki's Fruits Basket concludes serialization with the 50-paged chapter 136 in HanaLaLa 48/2010. Over and above the freebie Furuba bookmark that comes with purchase, one hopes that Elex's final tankou (the penultimate came out last December) will not be long in coming.

This anniversary issue also has another yummy double dose (Acts 98 and 99) of Nakamura Yoshiki's Skip Beat! draws the curtains on the Suddenly, a Love Story arc. Kyoko finally puts V.G. vocalist Reino (who has obedience issues as his Beagle moniker implies) in his place — with the help of a very menacing Tsuruga-san.

We also gets the second chapter of the just-debuted, first Manga Taishō finalist Natsume Yujincho by Midorikawa Yuki, which features 49 pages of more Natsume and Nyanko-sensei goodness.

Other regular Hana to Yume and LaLa serials: Alice Academy by Higuchi Tachibana (Story 76) · Arakure by Fujiwara Kiyo (Chapter 27) · Dragon's Fiancé (Ryuu no Hanawazurai) by Kusakawa Nari (Chapter 19) · La Corda D'Oro by Kure Yuki (Symphony 49) · Ouran High School Host Club by Hatori Bisco (Chapter 54) · Perjalanan Keliling Dunia Mr. ERMINE (Shokoku Manyu Okojosan) by Uno Ayumi (Part 6) · Sugar Princess by Nakajo Hisaya (Chapter 8) · Vampire Knight by Hino Matsuri (26th Night) · V.B. Rose by Hidaka Banri (Chapter 48; volume 1 is scheduled for an April 2010 release) · With My Brothers (Oniichan to Issho) by Tokeino Hari (Chapter 47)

Oh. Before I forget. Happy 4th Anniversary, HanaLaLa, from one of your most loyal customers.
