Love in Tokyo by Makita Nao and Love or Job by Kazui Kazumi (3L shoujo manga out now)

東京カレシ

Tokyo Kareshi © Makita Nao/Shogakukan (First serialized in Betsucomi)
Published in Indonesia as Love in Tokyo by Tiga Lancar Comic/3L

Over the bookstore weekend, passed up on these two new 3L shoujo manga: Love in Tokyo by Makita Nao and Love or Job by Kazui Kazumi. From the titling alone, expected rabu rabu sugar shock.

Love in Tokyo's title story—Tokyo Miracle Story—sees genki Mugiko bidding the village where she was born and raised bye-bye to try her luck in All Roads Lead to Tokyo. Not for any reason as crass as money, mind you; Mugiko's in search of her childhood “sweetheart” Yuu-chan whom she hasn't seen in three years.

She finds Yuu-chan, all right, but per shoujo convention, he's so cold and distant, he might as well be Antarctica. Shocked, Mugiko runs away only to run into... a prince? (Or something as close to.)

Makita Nao-sensei's My Secret Brother (that 3L released earlier) left me underwhelmed, but Baka-Updates' user-voted tags for the standalone: Arranged Marriage, City Boy, Country Girl, Love Triangle is making me rethink my original Leave well enough alone decision.

Love or Job, meanwhile, probably holds no surprises beyond the office romance implied by the title, but it does have one thing going for it: art by Kazui Kazumi-sensei who illustrated the Sekai no Chuushin de, Ai wo Sakebu (Crying Out Love in The Center of The World) manga.

You Can't Disappear From Me 3 (m&c!)

Boku kara Kimi ga Kienai © Aikawa Saki/Shogakukan (First serialized in Sho-Comi)
Published in Indonesia as You Can't Disappear From Me by Gramedia/m&c!

Hotaru's unease over Yukako and Kousuke ending up partners mutates into outright fear after finding Kousuke bleeding from a escapee robber's stab wound —

—and we all know that DAL (Deep And Abiding Love), no matter how unwilling, turns non-negotiable stubborn in the face of a soulmate endangered. So, looking forward to official Kousuke x Hotaru coupleship in You Can't Disappear From Me 3.

Ya, ya, I know the newsworthy releases are Alive 19, Shinobi Life 8, .hack//G.U.+ 4, The Minami Family 6 and the award-winning Aoizaka Baseball Club 15, series MIA for at least half a year, if not longer. But as the latest Shinobi Life busies itself with ninja power struggles (to KageBeni WAFF detriment)—or more to the point, because this is MY blog and I'm a self-professed shoujo fangirl—I choose to lead with You Can't Disappear From Me for the second week in a row. Deal, k(udasai).

Ongoing manga and manhwa previewing resumes momentarily.

Published in Indonesia as
To The Top! by m&c!

The sole m&c! debut—the only new manga across all Gramedia channels to street on 1st September, in fact—is To the Top! or Teppen!, Tsukimiya An's Showbiz, Music, Crossdressing, Secret Identity romance comedy originally serialized in LaLa DX:

Uehara Kobato leaves New York City and returns to Japan to search for her older brother, reportedly working in showbiz. By fluke, Kobato joins an idol audition and ends up living with Shijou Takeru, another wannabe star from the same talent agency. In such intimacy, it's only a matter of time before Takeru discovers Kobato's secret.

Most of Tsukimiya An-sensei's works appear to be one-shots, but she also created the eight tankou shoujo fantasy Rakuen Route.

A third Mei Shin candidate appears: UCLA professor Kunitachi Shoichiro admits he came home to help overhaul the problematic health care system. What kind of change will yet another “idealist” promise? And what will be Akira's reaction?

(Needless to say, GET! Team Medical Dragon 12, streeting this Wednesday, for teh answer.)

Brave Story 3 of 20 by Miyabe Miyuki, Ono Yoichiro

A misunderstanding with Branch lands Wataru, Kaori and Ki-Kiima in jail where they are suddenly attacked by one of Branch's members, apparently a spy for the Elder God. The trio thus learns of Vision's two opposing doctrines, one following the Elder God, the other advocating Goddess worship. Why are these two camps squabbling? And will their fighting prevent Wataru and allies from reaching the Tower of Fate?

TOKYOPOP's Brave Story 3 blurb has this to contribute to the summary cause:

After proving their innocence, Wataru, Kaori, and Ki-Kiima are released from the Gasara town jail, prepared to help the Branch defeat the fanatical “Church of the Elder God.” Enter “Left Snake-tail” Gruse, a member of the northern empire's elite guard, who is determined to keep our heroes from accomplishing their mission. When "Left Snake-tail" soundly defeats Wataru and Ki-Kiima and brings Kaori as his captive to the Church of the Elder God camp, will Kaori be able to infiltrate the their stronghold from within?

Jio 9 of 19 by Kishimoto Seishi

That Naruto 49 also releases this Wednesday probably has nothing to do with Jio 9 also shipping the same day. Tabun ne.

Anna's slyness nearly sidelines Jio Freed from the Olympia tourney, but a lack of finalists allows Jio to compete. His opponent: Anna. Their battleground: a spherical arena under zero-gravity conditions.

Is this gonna be a case of who dares, wins?

Also, Blade of Immortal 10 in which the focus switches to Hyakurin and Manji (leaving aside for the moment Anotsu and Rin) and Last Inning 6, in which Keisuke... (Scroll down for what Keisuke has planned for Saitama High's Koshien dreaming baseball team.)

CMB 12, Naruto 49, Summer Storm! 4 (Elex Media 1 September 2010 manga)

And the last Kunai Legend (volume 4). But before we get to that —

C.M.B. 12 (Elex Media)

C.M.B. Shinra Hakubutsukan no Jiken Mokuroku © Katou Motohiro
Kodansha (Serialized in Monthly Shonen Magazine)
Published in Indonesia as C.M.B. by Elex Media Komputindo

Hong Kong. A man flies off a building rooftop and is found only three days later. Meanwhile, a popular actress complains of seeing ghosts. Everything traces its genesis to Jingzhe, the day when insects—and disaster-harbinger spirits—rouse from their winter slumber.

Wonder what C.M.B. rings heir/museum curator Sakaki Shinra wants for his Wunderkammer from (the blurbed) Op.31: Ghosts, the third story of C.M.B. volume 12? Toma So's cousin is definitely hauling back at least three curiosities as he's also summoned to investigate ancient Babylonian tablets gone missing from the Louvre in the preceding Op.29 Clay seal and a locked room death in Op.30 Old woman and monkey — in which the only witness is a...dog? (I crafted the other two snap summaries from the Japanese Wiki synops, so please forgive misinterps.)

As for the top DO WANT! of this 80% SBV (Shounen By Volume) Elex release —

Naruto 49 of 52+ by Kishimoto Masashi

To preempt the inevitable assault from the renegade Akatsuki, Raikage convenes the five Kage; reps from the most powerful ninja villages descend upon Tetsu country. Meanwhile, Naruto tries to negotiate with the Raikage to avert Kumogakure's termination of Sasuke.

Continuing series previews resume below the manga list.

Kunai Legend 4 of 4 by Iori Tabasa

Ultimate battle against Suzushiro! Kunai and Jako face off with Suzushiro as Izuna learns that Kunai is actually a vampire. Will Izuna, Vampire Hunter, choose to hunt down Kunai? Or will she pay her grandfather's warnings no heed and side with Kunai in his fight against Suzushiro? Her decision determines whether or not Suzushiro can be sealed for all eternity.

(Now I can finally start Kunai Legend. Been holding up the read for until the series wrapped.)

MANGAZINES: Shonen Magz 76/2010

Another clash approaches climax in Shonen Magz 76/2010. The latest Sanzoku Ou: King of Bandits sees Nagato falling for Takatoki's ruse, thus allowing his opponent to hack-n-slash at Nagato with his sword. Drenched in blood, can the seemingly gravely-wounded Nagato still prevail?

(Volume 3 of Sawada Hirofumi's samurai action drama about the feudal order-destroying fugitive Nagato streets the same day as the series' newest ShoMagz chapter, but that synopsis comes later.)

Sanzoku Ou's other kewl shounen (and seinen) companions: BECK by Harold Sakuishi, Code:Breaker by Kamijyo Akimine, Fairy Tail by Mashima Hiro (Natsu's anime premieres this 30 September on Animax), Ghost Doctor by Sato Yuki, Kindaichi Case Files by Amagi Seimaru & Sato Fumiya (voodoo murders this episode), Kung Fu Boy Legends by Maekawa Takeshi, School Rumble by Kobayashi Jin, Tokkyu! by Komori Yoichi & Kubo Mitsuro (volume 13 ships concurrently), Tsubasa RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE by CLAMP and Vinland Saga by Yukimura Makoto.

Volume previews continued...

Animal Doctor 2 of 12 by Sasaki Noriko

So's he can take care of his “unusual” pet himself, Masaki pursues further studies in veterinary medicine. Along with his best bud Nikaido and eccentric senpai Hishinuma, Masaki spends days at University H prepping reports on various animal life.

Just what exactly do they observe? Or more to the point, what are their “lab subjects” thinking??

Otoboke Section Chief 6 of 22+ by Ueda Masashi

Regardless that he has next to no parental dignity to speak of, and a yama-san of salaryman responsibilities to get through as a section chief, Otoboke manages to muddle through days, bringing grins to people's faces.

So is it time to nominate Otoboke Kachou for Father of the Year??

Sanzoku Ou: King of Bandits 3 of 13 by Sawada Hirofumi

Now grown-up, Nagato is appointed Masashige's right-hand man. His first mission: Go to Harima with friend Koyasha to facilitate some transaction.

What the emissary pair doesn't know is that Akuto from Harima, Enshin Akamatsu, is hunting them down.

That congenital star-shaped stigma on Nagato's chest, singling him out as one prophesied to overthrow imperial authority, marks Nagato as The Target as blatantly as D.Gray-man Allen's exorcist coat, doesn't it?

Summer Storm! 4 of 8 by Kobayashi Jin

We're at the halfway mark of the summer tempest. (Kobayashi Jin's time-skipping romance comedy ends at volume 8.)

Kanako and Yayoi likewise end up working in Hakobune, crowding up Yasaka's summer. Yayoi also searches for a partner to connect with her so that she, too, can leap through time.

Tokkyu! 13 of 20 by Kubo Mitsuro & Komori Yoichi

Kanbayashi covertly tries out the new equipment that caused Meguru's accident and sent his unconscious colleague to the hospital. But no matter how many times he puts the thing to test, it looks perfectly fine.

Yappari. Hyogo x Meguru da.

BTW, Sanada visits “dangerously beautiful” travel-advisoried Indonesia in the next tankou.
