C.M.B. 15, Detektif Conan 61, Library War: Love and War 3 (Elex Media 11 May 2011 manga)

JP/ID cover mix because option ga butuh covernya, cuma butuh teksnya (Cover not needed; give me list!) won the Elex poll.

Published in Indonesia as C.M.B. by Elex Media Komputindo

Another of Shinra's adoptive fathers pops up — Professor Stan tracking a stolen Cambodian Devata sculpture to Japan. Unlike risk-taker dad Ray though, Stan appears normal. But his (surface) serenity presages headaches for our (already) clueless genius Shinra.

Summary refers to Op.41 Stan that first appeared in Monthly Shonen Magazine's June 2010 issue. It is one of four C.M.B 15 stories. The others are

  • Ariadne's Thread (Op.39), unraveling the mystery of the wooden Minotaur behind Shinra on the cover;
  • Fishing (Op.40), which sees Shinra's jaunt to a fishing pier overrun with cops chasing drug traffickers; and
  • Quilt (Op.42), in which a British Museum director risks worsening health to ask Shinra to decipher a mysterious quilt.

You know, right, that these snap synopses—save Op.41's—didn't come from Elex? (They hail from the Japanese   C.M.B. Wiki article.)

Now for the other top DO WANT! — volume 61 of the 24th longest running manga series, according to EN Wiki's tankou tally.

Detektif Conan 61 of 71+ by Aoyama Gosho

Phantom Thief Kid appears before his fans; what teleportation magic—and jewel theft—await?

Aside from chapter 631 Purple Nail (Kid's jewel target), Detektif Conan 61 investigates the case of peculiar paper airplanes (chapter 638 Paper Airplane) that Conan and Okiya Subaru deduce to be... (Go »here if you want the   SPOIL.)

New Elex manga

Wickedness and other Things That Don't Just Go Bump in the Night loom in the 5.11 debuts: Dream Eater Merry by Ushiki Yoshitaka, Moonlight Act by Fujita Kazuhiro and Princess Resurrection by Mitsunaga Yasunori. I already babbled about Yumekui Merry (reskedded from 4.27) and who can't claim even a passing acquaintance with Monsters, Princess, Vampires, Werewolves, Zombies, Adapted to Anime, Weak Male Lead, Strong Female Lead, Royal Family, Resurrection Kaibutsu Oujo? So Moonlight Act gets the Above the Cut blog estate. (Don't fret; I ramble about Princess Resurrection after the release list.)

Moonlight Act by Elex Media

Let me tell you a troublesome story: Every few decades, the light of a blue moon illuminates the earth, causing the faerie tale world children know from bedtime stories to experience weirdness. For this reason, the council of the world of tales enacted the Moonlight Ordinance.

Baka-Updates Manga in its Gekkou Jourei description contributes the name of our Hero: Iwasaki Gekko, high school student slash enforcer of the Moonlight Ordinance or Act aimed at normalizing the strange. (I don't know who is the girl on the cover; MU didn't say.)

Best known for the award-winning Calvin and Hobbes on acid Ushio to Tora, Fujita Kazuhiro-sensei is also the brain behind Bakegyamon. His 43-volume Karakuri Circus premieres over on Level Comics's side the same day as Moonlight Act. Both serialized in Shonen Sunday, but Gekkou Jourei is still current.

Oh, and manga-ka Raiku Makoto (Konjiki no Gash!!), Anzai Nobuyuki (Flame of Recca) and Inoue Kazurou (Midori Days) once worked as Fujita-sensei's assistants.

Box sets: Dragon Ball (You've only been drooling for this)

Apparently, an IDR 160,000 price ticket for a 10-volume box set isn't as hard to swallow as I'd first surmised; LX kids jumped at the chance of acquiring Dragon Ball volumes 1-10, 11-20 AND 21 to 30. Now, I don't know how many DB volumes Elex plans to bundle in total, but if we go by the original 42 tankou, one would need another IDR 192,000 on top of the IDR 480,000 for these three sets to complete the collection. So looking at an IDR 672,000 outlay or roughly USD 78.62 here.

Now if that Edisi Baru/New Edition you can see if you squint at teh cover means Elex is releasing the kanzenban (off-off-OFF! chance), then you'd need to factor in the cost of only four more volumes. But considering the IDR 16,000/volume price—500 rupiah less than the price of a regular tank—I doubt it's the kanzenban.

New manga continued

Princess Resurrection 1 of 14+ by Mitsunaga Yasunori

Thanks to the blood of Monster Princess Hime, Hiro rises from death by traffic accident. Not only does he resurrect, he also gains immortality. But all that undeadness comes at a price: now he must protect the princess, embroiled in a rite to the death with her sibs.

Why the chainsaw-wielding Lolita Hime needs a guardian when there's no creature of darkness she can't take down, I don't know. I didn't watch the anime — the TV series nor the OAVs.

Mitsunaga Yasunori also created Trafficker (published by Level Comics), which is prolly as far from GothLoli sociopaths as you can get.

Library War - Love & War 3 of 7+ by Yumi Kiiro & Arikawa Hiro

Iku sets aside her admiration for the ‘prince’ who took on Media Betterment Committee agents before her eyes, replacing him with drill instructor Dojo Atsushi. Her high regard, however, brings Dojo grief, with the upshot that Iku is left behind when the library task force sorties.

What Iku doesn't realize that underpinning the Get out my way! directive is concern for her safety.

Will prolly need to reread Library War - Love & War volumes 1 and 2 for maximum volume 3 enjoyment. And then whimper and whine until Elex releases volume 4. (See the Kyaaa~worthy cover here.) Or I could put myself out of my fangirl misery and order VIZ Media's Library Wars: Love & War, Vol. 4 that streeted 2011.03.01.

Topeng kaca 11 of 24+ Deluxe by Miuchi Suzue

Her mother's death so disheartens Maya, she loses her acting ability. She decides to perform her last drama, "The Yasha-hime Story," before terminating her contract with Daito. Ayumi's scathing words, however, revive Maya's spirit and she bounces back as the lead in the solo play "Lady Pirate Bianca."

Meanwhile, Ayumi picks up her "Crimson Angel" rival's gauntlet and stars in the solo drama "Juliet."

Teh rest

  • Godhand Teru 32 by Yamamoto Kazuki: Thanks to Ukai, Shinomiya found his reason for living. He meets Ukai again after several years, only to have Ukai ask Shinomiya to operate on him. At the same time, Teru learns that he is still lacking as a heart surgeon. Can Shinomiya and Teru overcome their problems?
  • Legend of the Cursed Sword 34 by Yeo BeopRyong & Park HuiJin: Kaihu and Huaren's nuptials get underway, even as Ahnu incites war between the demon world and heaven.
  • Ogawa and Team Saito 6 by Sakyo: Renna forces Ogawa to try out for a drama. Ogawa tries her best because she wants Oyorokobi-senpai to debut, but can she pass the audition?
  • V.B. Rose 6 by Hidaka Banri: Meeting Nagare rouses Arisaka's anxiety once more. Evidently the lingering relationship with Kana, the mysterious corsage artist, has left indelible, if unseen, scars. Meanwhile, Ageha is ecstatic because Kana, whom she never met, picks Ageha's bag to go with her new creation. Can the three get along when they finally meet?
  • Wild Life 16 by Fujisaki Masato: A white elephant arrives in Japan as a token of friendship from a neighboring nation. Unfortunately, the uprooted elephant refuses to drink, prompting the Maeno zoo to request Meio University's help. The university dispatches Tessho and Ryoto to handle the probably dehydrated by now pachyderm.

Elex only has thematic summaries for Mokke 2 (Shizuru sees spirits; Mizuki is easily possessed. The sisters live side by side with creatures invisible to normal eyes and learn that just like humans, these phantoms have their own idiosyncrasies.) and New Kobochan 5 (LOL at the antics of Kobo and his family).
