Animax synopsis

TV Tropes deadpans the slice of life Lucky Star as more or less a show about nothing in particular, and characterizes bishoujo lead Izumi Konata as an Otaku Surrogate whose Japanese pop culture knowledge is truly staggering. The otaku allusions and in-jokes (to Suzumiya Haruhi, Galaxy Angel II, SHUFFLE!, Suzumiya Haruhi, Kanon, To Heart, Suzumiya Haruhi) are actually the most fun part. You get Hirano Aya Adam Westing as herself, Ono Daisuke as himself, Goto Yuko as herself and no wonder. This Kyoto Animation production, based on the manga by Yoshimizu Kagami (not yet licensed for Indonesia) was reportedly designed to cash in on the merchandising of anime in general, mainly from Haruhi.

The 24-episode series aired in Japan from April to September 2007, with Hirano Aya (of course) as Konata Izumi, Endo Aya as Miyuki Takara, Katou Emiri as Hiiragi Kagami and Fukuhara Kaori as Hiiragi Tsukasa. The same quartet performs the opening theme, Motteke! Sailor Fuku (もってけ!セーラーふく) and they take turns singing the 23 EDs listed here. Yamamoto Yutaka directed episodes 1 through 4; Takemoto Yasuhiro took over from episode 5 until the series finale. There's a sequel Lucky Star OVA.
